PAULA SKENE DESIGNS - American Flowers Card

Revived from the Paula Skene Designs archives is this "bring back" originally in our line in 1993. The card is based on Esther Howland's First American Valentine done in 1849 and from The Art Institute of Chicago's archives. The original artwork was paper lace with cut flower appliqués and woven paper. They brought the artwork to life with foil stamping, embossing, and die cutting to create the feeling of lace on the paper.

Foil Stamped & Embossed

Embossing is created when the paper is put between the two dies and the press closes and puts pressure on the paper.  Foil colour is created by a stamping die.  Each colour is a separate die. Many designs require up to six passes of colour all in perfect registration.
